Bush, Crow, Elliott, Michael Among 14 Acts Up for 2023 Rock Hall Induction

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has revealed the 14 acts nominated for induction in 2023, a field that spans pop, hip-hop, metal, country, punk-influenced rock and soul.

The nominees are Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, The Spinners, A Tribe Called Quest, The White Stripes and Warren Zevon.

Eight of the 14 are being considered for the first time: Crow, Elliott, Joy Division/New Order, Lauper, Michael, Nelson, The White Stripes and Zevon. This is the first year of eligibility for both Elliott and The White Stripes.

Under the foundation's rules, an individual artist or band becomes eligible for nomination once at least 25 years have passed since its first commercial recording was released.

John Sykes, chairman of the foundation, said the list "reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates." He added: "These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps."

Ballots will go to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry members. Voters weigh an artist's musical impact and influence on others, the length and depth of a career and body of work, and innovation and superiority in style and technique.

Fans can also take part. Through April 28, they can cast a vote every day online at vote.rockhall.com. The five artists who receive the most public support will form a "fans' ballot," which will be counted together with the other ballots to determine the 2023 inductees.

The inductees are scheduled to be announced in May. The induction ceremony is planned for the fall, with the date, venue and ticketing details still to be announced.
